Aren't you tired of leaking batteries, batteries that need frequent water topping, batteries that don't give indicated backup even when you fully charge them? Don't curse your batteries – the real fault lies in your inverter. Remember, it is the inverter that is responsible for charging your batteries – ordinary inverters undercharge or overcharge the batteries and that is where the problems begin.
Ordinary inverter can't sense the outside temperature so it charges the batteries based on factory set voltage. For example, ordinary inverters are made to build battery's voltage for up to 14.4 v only (in the case of tubular batteries) because that's how much they need to get fully charged given that the temperature is 25 degrees Celsius. However the battery needs different voltage at different temperature. The acid in the battery behaves like any other liquid – expands when it is hot and contracts when it is cold. When it expands, it needs less cut-off voltage to get fully charged and needs more voltage during cold temperature as it is in its contracted state.
If the outside temperature is 35-40 degrees then the cut off voltage should be only 14.13 but inverters keep charging the battery up to 14.4 because they don't have the technology to sense temperature. This overcharges the battery and causes it to release harmful fumes, the waters evaporates and you need frequent water topping. In extreme cases the battery may bulge or blast putting your lives in danger.
If the temperature is 0-10 degrees then the cut off voltage should be more – approx 14.85 but if inverters give factory set voltage of 14.4 then the battery remain undercharged. It gives less backup and after some time never gets 100% charged resulting in huge inconvenience and losses to you.
